Narraloud

PDF to Markdown converter

Turn a PDF into clean Markdown you can edit, version, or paste into an AI chat. Headings, emphasis, and tables are detected from the document's real layout, and the conversion runs entirely in your browser, so the file is never uploaded.

Why Markdown?

Markdown is the plain-text format that survives everything: editors, version control, note apps, static sites, and AI assistants all read it natively. A PDF locked to fixed pages becomes text you can actually work with, with the structure kept as headings, lists, and tables instead of flattened into one blob.

How the extraction works

A fast open-source engine reads the PDF's internal structure, detects columns and tables from the real layout, and writes Markdown that mirrors the document's own hierarchy. Scanned pages are photographs rather than text, so the tool detects them up front and says so instead of producing an empty file.

Rather listen to that PDF?

We build Narraloud, an iPhone and iPad app that reads PDFs, EPUBs, web articles, and scanned pages aloud in natural voices that run entirely on the device. The PDFs this page converts, and the scanned ones it cannot, Narraloud reads aloud.
